Narrative
Tornado over Kansas
A family runs for the storm cellar as a tornado crosses the plains — narrative painting about weather, work and holding together.
About this piece
Tornado over Kansas is the studio’s first large narrative canvas: a storm story told in one held breath. The composition keeps every figure moving toward shelter while the funnel holds the horizon. Narrative and editorial pictures — stories with weather in them — are open for commission.
How it was made
Dozens of figure studies from life, a monochrome oil sketch for the storm light, then the full canvas painted in six weeks with the sky completed in a single day.
