Architecture
The Cloister
Sunlit arches of a monastery cloister — an architectural painting about rhythm, shadow and quiet.
About this piece
The Cloister was painted on a residency in Rome, mornings only, before the tour groups arrived. The challenge was restraint: ochres and umbers, one blue note in the sky, and arches repeated until they feel like music. Architectural work suits heritage sites, hotels and publishers of place.
How it was made
Measured perspective drawings on site each morning, color notes in oil on paper, then the canvas resolved in the studio from the drawings rather than from photographs.
