Birds
Prothonotary Warblers
Two golden warblers in green cane — a small, bright plate painted for a wetlands field guide.
About this piece
Prothonotary Warblers was one of twelve plates for a wetlands field guide, each painted to show the bird exactly as a watcher would meet it: in its plant, at its height, in its light. The golden heads against the cane green made this the signature plate of the set, and the guide’s cover.
How it was made
Blind-hide sketches for posture, specimen studies for feather detail, then the plate painted life-size so the printed guide matches the living bird.
