Birds
Carolina Parrots
A lost American parrot, painted life-size and full of noise — an elegy in green and gold for the Carolina parakeet.
About this piece
Carolina Parrots remembers a bird extinct since 1918, painted at the size of life from museum specimens. The plate is deliberately crowded and loud: this was a social, clamorous bird, and the picture refuses to mourn it quietly. A portion of every print sold goes to parrot conservation.
How it was made
Specimen drawings at three museums, branch studies from a local orchard, then the full sheet composed so the flock reads as one wheeling movement.
