Study
Drapery Study
A quiet study of folded cloth — the kind of drawing exercise the studio returns to between commissions to keep the hand honest.
About this piece
Drapery Study is a tonal exercise in patience: one piece of linen, one window, one morning. Working in silverpoint and wash forces slow looking, because no line can be erased. The study now hangs in the studio as a reminder that every finished illustration stands on drawings nobody will ever see.
How it was made
Prepared beige paper, silverpoint underdrawing, then grey wash built in thin glazes. Highlights lifted with bread crumb and a damp brush.
